Use these 7 weapons of the Armor of God to be a powerful Warrior Woman
Maybe you have read the Bible verses in Ephesians 6:10-18 about putting on the armor of God. But what does that mean? Each piece represents an action or attitude based on how the enemy attacks us.
Maybe you have read the Bible verses in the book of Ephesians 6:10-18 about putting on the armor of God. But what does that mean? Each piece represents an action or attitude based on how the enemy attacks us.
If you belong to Christ, then you are involved in spiritual warfare. Ephesians 6:12 says, “For we are not fighting against flesh and blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in the dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places” (NLT)
Priscilla Shrier does a great job of helping you understand how to use the Armor of God to fight the spiritual battles you may face.
The Apostle Paul teaches us to put on the full armor of God while in a Roman prison around A.D. 62. These words still hold meaning for us today.
Paul is proof that God can and will save anyone. Paul spent his time persecuting the New Testament church. He believed he was honoring God by torturing and killing the early Christian church.
He is also proof that God can use anyone. While on the road to Damascus, Paul met God. Sometimes, people know God but do not have a genuine relationship with God. Paul had a religion but no relationship.
But on that day, Paul met Christ Jesus. This was the first time Paul experienced the love of God in a personal way. He came to know the Lord Jesus Christ and experienced the truth of God’s word. He gained the most critical thing, eternal life, through the righteousness of Christ.
Paul talks about the “armor” of God because this is something the people of his day could relate to. They were used to seeing Roman soldiers and guards wearing armor, which made sense to them.
I love the image, and it is a good reminder that we are in a battle against satan’s attacks every day. If we are going to fight against the “spiritual hosts of wickedness” and the “rulers of the darkness of this age,” then we better pick up the weapons of our warfare and use the divine power given to us as people of God.
The schemes of the devil are designed specifically for each one of us. He is the Father of lies. He loves to confuse and distract us, so we take our eyes off God. Therefore, we need to be prepared!
Let’s look at the seven pieces of armor God has given us and figure out what it means and how we can use it in practical ways in our daily lives. After all, A.D. 60-62 was a very long time ago!
The Helmet of Salvation
The first step is to put on our helmet of salvation. The helmet is the assurance of salvation. Without this firm foundation, Satan will try to attack our minds. That makes this piece of armor one we should never forget. Satan will try to make Christians question their salvation. We are not witnessing and sharing the gospel’s good news when unsure of our salvation. The helmet of salvation also helps us to have the mind of Christ.
When Jesus was led into the wilderness by Satan, Jesus used God’s word against every temptation.
The Breastplate of Righteousness
Sin opens the door for Satan to attack and work in our lives. When we deliberately live in sin, you know, that sin you don’t want to give up; you have given the enemy an open invitation to attack you.
The Christian life is sometimes hard. So that makes this piece of armor very important. The breastplate of faith protects our hearts against the devil’s schemes. Proverbs 4:23 says, “Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of our life.” So that makes our hearts a vital organ that needs to be protected.
The Roman soldiers used their breastplates to protect their vital organs. When we are living righteous lives, we are protected from falling into sin. Of course, we will still make mistakes. We are human, and it is easy to get distracted daily. But, as Christians, we have the Holy Spirit to guide and help us.
The Belt of Truth
In ancient times, the Roman soldier’s belt was an essential piece of armor. It held everything together, just like the truth of God’s word holds our lives together.
If we do not know what the Bible says, it is easy for Satan to attack our minds and confuse us about right and wrong. Remember us talking about having the mind of Christ?
The belt of truth is an effective weapon against every spiritual attack. Without knowing God’s truth, how can we defend ourselves from the wiles of the devil? We can’t.
Remember, Satan is the Father of Lies and confusion. We must discern between the truth of God’s word and the enemy’s lies. “Discernment is not simply telling the difference between what is right and wrong; rather, it is the difference between right and almost right.” Charles Spurgeon
Feet shod in the preparation of the Gospel of Peace
Just as a Roman soldier would not go into battle without his shoes, we can’t be effective in our spiritual battle without our shoes’ armor. Ephesians 6:13: “Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy on the evil day.” The shoes of the Roman soldiers had little spikes on the bottom to help them dig their feet into the ground to stand firm. The shoes of peace allow us to be Christian soldiers, standing firm on the truth of God’s word.
Shoes allow us to walk without fear because we have protection. The Bible gives us peace. Perfect peace casts out fear. When we have peace, we are more willing and able to share the ultimate truth of salvation. We can boldly share the good news of peace and the hope of salvation.
The Sword of the Spirit
“To be a Christian is to be a warrior.” – Charles Spurgeon
No warrior would go into battle without one of his most powerful tools, his sword. So, the Roman soldier used his sword in hand-to-hand combat.
The sword of the Spirit is the Word of God or the Bible. So Hebrews 4:12, the Bible says, “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.”
God’s word is alive and is a mighty offensive weapon when satan tries to attack. When the spiritual forces of evil try to come against you, use the armor of God’s word to speak against the powers of this dark world. When faced with God’s truth, the enemy has no choice but to leave. He can’t argue that what God says is true.
The Shield of Faith
A shield guards someone against an oncoming attack. Ephesians 6:16 says, “Use the Shield of Faith to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.”
These “darts” can represent all the lies the enemy shoots at us. The lie that we are not loved, we are not enough, we will never be accepted, we cannot be forgiven, or we are flawed. We are to use the Shield of Faith to deflect these lies satan uses to try to knock us down. I love this image of all the Roman soldiers holding up their shields to protect them from the flaming darts of their enemies. When we put on the whole armor of God, we can put out the flaming arrows of the devil’s schemes. When you hold up your shield, you activate your faith, an essential part of your spiritual armor.
Importance of using God’s Armor
Some fights are more challenging than others. That’s why it is so important for us to put on our Christian armor. I can tell you right now if you are saved but not trying to live a righteous life, then Satan is not worried about you. Why should he?
However, if you love God with all your heart, try to live according to His Word, and serve Him with your life, you better be ready because Satan is after you. You are using God’s word to fight the good fight against the enemy of God.
Satan will use every weapon he can to shut you up. The enemy will study you and your life. He will look for a weakness that he can attack. This is why we must wear the whole armor of God.
We must “be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power” Ephesians 6:10 (ASV).
Do not give the enemy room to move in and take over. We must be prepared because the Bible says, “Be sober, be watchful; Your adversary, the devil as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour..” 1Peter 5:8 (ASV)
Be a warrior woman for your faith, husband, children, and home. Stand firm, dig your heels in, and fight satan with everything you have. God has given you all you need to be victorious, so use the weapons you have been given!
Remind satan who you are in Christ. You are a daughter of the King! You may not feel strong, but you belong to the One who is.
Prayer
The last piece of armor is prayer. “Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.” Ephesians 6:18
One of the best ways to fight satan’s attacks is to pray! Prayer is our lifeline, and it is our connection to the Father. It opens the door for us to have a personal conversation with the Creator of the universe.
God tells us, “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7
Do you need help bringing your thoughts in line with the word of God? Philippians 4:8 tells us, “Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.”
Is the enemy trying to make you doubt your identity in Christ? Does he remind you about your past sins, making you think you are broken or unworthy? But, sister, when God saved you, He put the robe of Christ’s righteousness around you, and all God sees when He looks at you is a beautiful daughter washed clean through the blood of His precious son Jesus. He sings His songs of love over you!
Does the enemy attack you, causing you to be anxious, fearful, or doubt God’s love? Pray! Talk to God and tell him you need help. Tell Him you can’t do this alone and need God to intervene and help you. Then put on all the pieces of the armor of God. These are your spiritual tools to fight the spiritual battle that is raging in the heavenly realms. The most important thing you can do is to put on your helmet of salvation, the breastplate of righteousness, the belt of truth, shoes of the gospel of peace, pick up your shield of faith, and take up your sword, which is the word of truth. Because you, my dear sister, are in a spiritual war.
“Our praying needs to be pressed and pursued with an energy that never tires, a persistency which will not be denied, and a courage that never fails.” E.M. Bounds
In the course of our daily life, we may pray all kinds of prayers. David wrote some of the most heartfelt prayers, and we have a record of them in the Book of Psalms. His prayers show that David had a relationship with God and was confident that God knew him. David didn’t just have a knowledge of God; he had a relationship with God.
“O Lord, You have examined my heart and know everything about me. You know, when I sit down or stand up. You know my thoughts even when I’m far away. You see me when I travel and when I rest at home. You know everything I do. You know what I am going to say even before I say, Lord. You go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too great for me to understand!” I can never escape from your Spirit! I can never get away from your presence! If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the grave, you are there. If I ride the wings of the morning, if I dwell by the farthest oceans, even there, your hand will guide me, and your strength will support me. I could ask the darkness to hide me and the light around me to become night-but even in darkness I cannot hide from you. To you, the night shines as bright as day. Darkness and light are the same to you. You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous – how well I know it. You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion, as I was woven together in the dark of the womb. You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand! And when I wake up, you are still with me! … Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. Point out anything in me that offends you, and lead me along the path of everlasting life.”

The Christian life is sometimes hard. It is easy to give in to temptation or follow the crowd.
Thank God, He is with us in these times.
"The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure." 1 Corinthians 10:13 NLT
So that makes this piece of armor very important. It protects our hearts against the devil’s schemes.

We were talking about the Armor of God in Bible Boot Camp this summer and I was able to take it further. They knew what each of the pieces of armor were and what they were used for. So I told them… When you’re getting ready for school in the morning, think about putting this armor on. Your shirt is the breastplate or righteousness, your pants are the belt of truth, your shoes are the shoes of peace, your shield is your backpack, and a hat or headband is the helmet of salvation. I told them to think about what each of those clothing items represent when they get dressed. I wanted them to ask about the sword and they did. I told them, “don’t be afraid to actually bring the sword of the spirit in your backpack. It is okay to bring the Bible with you to school.” Some of them were happy to exclaim that they already do!
What was even better is that we were talking about this but didn’t do it myself in the morning. I now have ever since we had that conversation.
I LOVE it!! I never thought about that for the kids going to school. Thanks for sharing!
This is absolutely fantastic! The visuals make the versus tangible and the kids using this before school is perfect! Thank you for this!
Thank you! I was kinda concerned about the images to be honest so I’m so glad you like it! Have a blessed day ?
I appreciated how you described each piece of spiritual armour and how they protect us in the spiritual battle. A great reminder that we are warriors and need to be prepared at all times for the ways the enemy tries to attack us. Oftentimes, we can become complacent and forget to protect ourselves and end up become victims of spiritual warfare. Visualizing putting on each piece every morning, would be a fantastic way to enter the day!
I love reading about the armor of God, I feel Christians forget too often that our battle is not with flesh and blood. This is great Karen!
Thank you!
Amen. So wonderfully spoken. Thank you for going into detail.
I discovered your blog through the armor of God image on Pinterest. Great Post!
Thank you, Karen, for breaking down the armour that God gives us as we go to battle every day against the enemy. We have some pretty powerful tools. And I, for one, am so very thankful for our wonderful Savior and just knowing that He will succeed is a glorious thought.
Thank you! I have been gay Christian most of my life! I was married to my wife for over 10 years when God revealed that this is not how He designed marriage. In fact for the past 5 years, as He has transformed me, the life I was living, the love that I was sharing, the truth that I was believing has all been counterfeit. God has been renewing my mind, my heart and my soul with the truth! When I read this today, God reveal the fear factor to me! When He revealed to me the homosexuality is a sin, I remember thinking yes Lord, thank you! That’s it, we got it! LoL, only now do I know that I was way off, that revalation wasn’t the end it was just the beginning. Fear has been the biggest and hardest thing for me! But when you broke it down that Perfect Piece casts out all fear, oh my Word, oh my heart! This right here! God has been refining my peace, showing me how to use the Armor to defeat the attack and then the blessing and strength increases for the next one. Thank you! There is so much more to my testimony, but for now I will continue to conquer each day with the Armor of God!
Praise God for His grace, mercy, love and patience. God’s love comes to us and He is always waiting with open arms for us to come to Him! I’m am praying for you that God will continue to transform your mind and heart to live for Him and that His Holy Spirit will fill you with His peace that passes all understanding!
Thank you for helping me realize the power of wearing daily the armour of God and how much protection it provides each and every day. The effectiveness is felt immediately.
“Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day. This is a really good topic that we don’t talk about much, assuming that it is just understood. Followers of Christ need to hear this more often because we can get caught up in everyday life and forget to get dressed properly. Sometimes we get dressed for the morning event, or school, or work, and we take our fears, stress, and emotions with us. That’s why it’s also very important to spend that time with God in the morning before you get your day started and the distractions kick in. Spending time with God will equip you to always get prepared for the day in the right clothes. Thanks for letting God use you to share this! I will definitely try to be more consistent to apply this to my life!
Good morning!
At the beginning of your post you have the different armors pictured with brief descriptions of each. Do you have a pdf of this? Or know where I can get this exact picture? I would love to have it in front of me every day to remind myself of how protected I really am!! It is so lovely.
I will be happy to get this for you!
This is an awesome and in depth post on the armor of God! Thank you! ❤️
Thank you!
Thank you for explaining each piece of the Armor of God with such detail. This is a great post!!
This post…man, you did a great job! Thank you! I also found your site through the image on google when I was looking for something to remind me and use with my granddaughter for her Bible portion of our homeschooling. How may I get a copy of that?
Hey Mimi,
Thank you so much! I’m so glad you found it helpful. What exactly are you wanting a copy of? I’m happy to help in any way I can! So happy to hear you are helping your granddaughter with her homeschooling and especially studying the Bible. I will definitely be praying for you 🙂
