Have you ever wanted to pray for your husband only to not know where to start? I think we all have at some time. Or we start praying and then get sidetracked or fall asleep.
Let me ask you a question. How many devotionals do you own? Now how many books on prayer?
Well if you are like me, you have a very nice collection! And don’t get me started on planners! I am a serious planner nerd!!
Anyway, I always have the best of intentions and then at some point before I finish, I end up stopping and starting another one.
Yes, this makes me feel like dirt. I really want to finish but then I don’t. I will read through the table of contents and see that it has great information but then end up moving on to another one.
That’s why I decided to come up with 31 days of prayer prompts for our husbands! It is literally 1 thing a day to pray about.
I feel like there are so many things we can pray for our husbands so if we take it one day at a time it will be easier.
We won’t be distracted because we are only going to pray for one specific thing each day. This way we can really focus on that one thing.
We won’t be overwhelmed trying to remember every single thing we need to pray for because we will only focus on one single thing a day.
Now I’m going to list a few here but I will have a pdf you can download at the end for all 31. This is just a starting point.
Prayer Prompt – His Mind
So it seems like it only makes sense to start at the top and work our way down. We know that one way satan attacks us is by trying to invade our minds through our thoughts.
We all know that the devil is a liar. If he can get us to believe the lies that he keeps telling us then we are not focused on the things of God.
The devil will tell you that you are not loved, not good enough, not smart enough, or not wanted.
So let us start here. Let us pray that God will guard our husband’s minds. God uses Paul to tell us in Philippians 4:8, “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things.” (NIV)
Prayer Prompt – His Ears
I know this sounds funny to be praying for our husband’s ears but in reality what we are praying for is his hearing.
The Bible actually has a lot to say about our hearing. I found 38 verses about hearing God’s voice. You may can find more.
John 10:27 says, “My sheep hear my vice, and I know them, and they follow me. ” James 1:19 “Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger;” Mark 4:9 “And he said, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear.”
There are several more verses but these are a few to get started. One way the the devil controls our thoughts and our hearts is by whispering his lies to us through our hearing.
So we want to pray that God will guard his hearing and close his ears to the lies of the enemy.
Prayer Prompt – His Speech
Wow this is a big one, his speech! Have you ever said something you wish you could take back as soon as you said it?
Boy I have! Sometimes things just completely bypass my brain and come right out my mouth and immediately I regret it.
I think we all do that from time to time. This is true of our husband as well.
The tongue is a very small part of our body but boy can it cause a world of trouble!
The Bible talks about how the tongue brings both blessings and curses. In the Old Testament fathers would speak a blessing over their children. Sometimes a person would speak a curse over someone else.
The Bible has plenty to say about our speech too. Which is a good reason to be in prayer about this for our husband.
1 Peter 3;10 says “for, “Whoever would love life and see good days must keep their tongue from evil and their lips from deceitful speech.” We want our husbands to have good days and love his life.
Ephesians 4:29 “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.” Boy wouldn’t that be wonderful if our husbands speech built us up and our children?
Let us focus on this and pray for God to guard our husband’s speech starting today!
Prayer Prompt – His Heart
I am a firm believer that whatever comes out of our mouth is a direct reflection of what is in our hearts.
When we speak words that tear down and hurt others it is reflection of how the devil has invaded our thoughts and our hearts.
When we speak words that build up and encourage others then that is a reflection of a mind whose thoughts have been guarded in prayer and heart that is full of love and acceptance.
Proverbs 4:23 teaches this by saying “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.” (NIV)
What an important area of our lives and our husband’s life to be in prayer about!
Prayer Prompt – His Walk
If we are going to pray about his mind, his speech and his heart we need to be praying about his walk. One thing I have noticed and I’m sure I’ve probably said in other posts is that when our hearts are right with God then everything else will fall into place.
I believe this with all my heart. This is a direct reflection of our walk with God.
We can’t just be a christian on Sunday morning then live any way we want to the rest of the week and expect God to guard us and bless our lives.
He may choose to do that because He is a good and loving God and His thoughts are not our thoughts. But we cannot expect God’s blessings when we are not living according to His word.
We definitely want God’s blessings on our lives and one way to do that is to have a life that is pleasing to Him.
Proverbs 3;5-6 says “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will direct your path.” See the correlation between our minds, our hearts and our walk with God?
Trust with our hearts, do not depend on our own understanding (minds) and he will direct our path (our walk).
So we want to make sure to cover our husband’s walk with God in prayer as well.
Prayer Prompts – How to use them
Ok so below are 31 prayer prompts we can pray for our husband every day of the month of March.
I don’t think we bother God by praying for something more than once.
I know some people think it is a lack of faith to pray for something more than once.
The argument is that if we really trusted God and had faith then we would lift this up to God once and then just trust Him to answer.
However, I also believe that is why God put the story in the Bible of the woman who kept going to the judge repeatedly with the same request. Luke 18:1 – 8.
The Bible says in James 5:16 “The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.”
It is not enough to just mention our husband to God when we pray. I call these generic prayers. When we say “thank you for, please be with, watch over and protect, etc, etc.” We must be specific in our prayers.
The Bible says the earnest prayer is what gets results. He wants us to have great concern for others when we pray.
We love our husband and we need to have great concern for him when we pray. I’ve been praying for my husband for 26 years about a certain area of his life. I will continue to pray about this until God directs me otherwise.
One thing I want to remind you about is this. God gives each of us a free will. It may very well be God’s will for your husband to change in a certain area but your husband has a free will. If he doesn’t want to change then God will not force him.
That’s why it is so important to pray for our husbands to have a heart for the things of God. Just like David prayed in Psalm 51:10 “Create in me a clean heart, O God and renew a right spirit within me.” (ESV)

Don’t be discouraged if it seems like nothing is happening. We are not God and we can’t see the big picture from where we are.
We must not give up! We must pray that God will give us strength and courage to continue to pray for our husband and not give up. I’ll be honest, sometimes I have to ask God to give me the desire to continue to pray for my husband.
When you pray about something for 26 years and you don’t see any lasting change, it can be very discouraging. But I believe that’s why God gave us Hebrews chapter 11. Stay strong my dear friend!
