War Room prayers to pray for your children

We all know how important it is to be in prayer about who we marry and then to be in prayer for our spouse. So I wrote a blog post about War Room Prayers for Your Marriage and have a 5-Day Email Challenge Praying for Your Husband.

But what about your kids? You must pray for your children as well!

The enemy has a plan.

If you’ve been a Christian very long, you know that the enemy wants to destroy your life.

He wants to destroy your witness.

He also wants to destroy your family, including your children.

Hence the importance of praying for your children!

Satan wants to take away anything good you have going in your life.

He does not want you to be thanking God or giving God praise for anything.

Perfect example – your children!

God has a plan

I was told by a doctor before I ever got married that I would probably never be able to have children.

If I did get pregnant, I should not get excited because there was a good chance I would lose the baby.

That really didn’t bother me much at the time.

I wasn’t married, wasn’t planning on starting a family, and honestly really didn’t like kids that much anyway.

(There is something you need to know and remember, God has a sense of humor!)

However, all that changed when I did get married, and we started talking about having a family. But, again, God was working on my heart.

I thought I always had a pretty strong faith and good prayer life.   Now they were being put to the test.

I began to pray for my children. Children I didn’t even have yet!

As I was reading my Bible one day, I came across the story of Hannah and how she prayed for a baby.

That day I decided to ask God for a baby and then do my best to leave it in His hands.

The very next month, I was pregnant.

I thought it was a stomach bug because we had been trying to have children and were a disappointed month after month.

As soon as that little blue bundle of joy arrived and they handed him to me, the reality of the situation hit me like a Mac truck.

I was now a mom!

It wasn’t just about my husband or me anymore.

We had this tiny human to care for.

I seriously thought I was going to be sick.

You see, I’m an only child. So all I ever had was dogs.

Now I had a son!

Then God reminded me of the story of Hannah, and I was immediately reminded that this sweet precious baby was a gift.

Now I really began to pray for my children.

If God could give him to me, God could take care of him.

While lying on that bed holding my baby for the first time, I said a silent prayer thanking God for this amazing little gift, and then I gave him back to God.

I knew if I could trust God with my soul, then I could trust Him with this baby He gave me as an answered prayer!

Powerful prayers got this baby here, and I had to pray for his protection more than once while still carrying him! He tried to come early 4 times.

Then I was told he would be developmentally delayed, and we didn’t need to have any more kids because he would be a “handful.”

Well, let me just assure you of this.

God can do anything!

He is healthy, 6’1, over 200 pounds of muscle, and very smart.

He is married to a sweet Christian girl, and they have the most precious baby boy.

How’s that for answered prayer!

I told you all of that to say this. PRAYING FOR YOUR CHILDREN IS ESSENTIAL!!!

Parents praying with children

You need a plan to pray for your children.

Besides your husband, who is the most important person in your life? Your child, of course!

Children are gifts from the Lord, so we must be thankful for them and cover them in prayer.

Every area of their lives must be covered in prayer. Pray for your children, momma!

They are a precious gift from God that cannot be replaced. Yet, they are unique, full of hope and promise.

Do you know how God calls Himself the Potter, and we are the clay?

When babies are born, they are like little balls of clay.

Not only is it our responsibility, but it is also our privilege to mold them into the people God has called them to be.

We teach them how to feed themselves, take a bath, dress, tie their shoes, count, learn their ABCs, etc.

The most important thing we teach them is God and His love for them.

Pray for your children, dear momma.

We all know how sweet, kind and friendly the world is, right? Hardy har har!!

It is our job to protect them and teach them how to survive in the world and how to show God’s love.

What better way to help protect them from the enemy and his lies and evil plans than prayer?

Make a good plan and pray for your children.

What better way to teach them than to pray for God’s wisdom and guidance?

How do we know what to pray for? God’s word is filled with instructions about how to raise our children.

The Bible is the best instruction book, and you can use it for any situation!

So what are the areas we really need to focus on when praying for our children?

If you are not a parent yet, that is the best place to start.

Praying if it is God’s will for you to have children.

Once you do, then, of course, we are going to pray for their health.

Not just physical but psychological health as well.

We want to pray that God will guard their minds and thoughts.

Pray for their eyes that they will never see anything that will scar them or be addicted to pornography.

Pray for their speech and that no unclean language comes from their mouths.

Pray for their hearts to follow God and their spirits to be full of the Holy Spirit.

Pray for their character and that they will be men and women of integrity with good reputations.

There are so many more areas to pray for!

We want to cover our children in prayer from head to toe and inside out!!

We want their lives to matter and count for God.

We want them to be happy and know love and acceptance with Godly friends.

Think of all the things you pray about every day.

Do you find yourself praying generic prayers for your kids?

You know the one, “Father, please keep them safe,” “Bring them home safely,” and “Bless their lives.”

These aren’t bad. Of course, we want our children to be safe and blessed, but what if there is more?

What if God is waiting on us to just ask?

God tells us that we “have not because we ask not, or we ask amiss” James 4:2-3.

I want my children to be “blessed exceedingly abundantly above all that I can ask or think!” Ephesians 3:20-21.

I want my children to be men and women of God who are used by Him for great and mighty things.

I want them to help grow the Kingdom of God and be used by Him for His glory.

Here’s the thing.

If I can trust God to save me and keep my soul from going to hell for eternity, how can I not trust God with my children?

Remember when I told you that I didn’t like kids?

Remember when I said God has a sense of humor?

Well, not only did God bless me with my first son, whom I prayed so hard for. He blessed me with 4 more!

Yes, I am an only child, who didn’t like kids, was told I couldn’t have kids, prayed for one baby thinking that would be a miracle, and God gave me 5!

God changed my selfish heart into one that would learn to love others more than myself.

He has used these precious kids to teach me so much about Himself.

More importantly, God has taught me about His unconditional love, unending mercy, complete forgiveness, and many more lessons; there just isn’t enough time to write it all.

Having a large family hasn’t always been easy.

There have been days when I have just sat on the couch looking at toys, laundry, and dirty dishes and thought, “what in the world have I done?”lol.

Well, I learned to trust God. I learned to be thankful.

No, my house is not always clean. At any given moment, you will find dirty clothes or dirty dishes.

There is always something that needs to be dusted!!

But that’s ok. I’ve learned to let go. Let go of the need to be perfect and have everything else be perfect.

I’ve learned to let go of the fake facade of trying to make everyone believe I have it all together.

I am learning what it means to love and be loved.

So more than anything, especially as my kids have gotten older, I’ve learned the importance of prayer.

Trust me, I do not have it all together, and I don’t have all the answers.

One thing I know will tell forever to anyone who will listen for the rest of my life.
