Powerful War Room Prayers for your Marriage
What is a “war room” prayer?
A war room prayer for your marriage is a prayer you pray when you are completely serious about praying for your marriage.
You are determined to cover it in the blood of Jesus and in His power for His glory.
The Bible says we are to always be on guard because the devil “prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour” ( 1 Peter 5:8, NASB), always trying to find a place in our lives to pounce and attack us.
His goal is to destroy you, your prayer life, and your witness.
One of the ways he tries to do this is through your marriage.
Why does he attack our marriages?
Because it is the closest relationship that mirrors God’s relationship with the church.
Please understand that I am NOT saying you are not serving the Lord or not being a witness if, for some reason, you are divorced.
God gives each of us free will, and sometimes, no matter how hard you pray or what you do, the other person still chooses to leave.
Unfortunately, we live in a broken world with sin is a consequence.
This is why it is vital to guard our hearts and minds and cover our spouses and marriages in prayer!
Why pray for your marriage?
Because the devil wants to destroy you.
He wants to eliminate any and all good in your life.
He wants to destroy your witness.
As I said earlier, one of the ways he tries to do this is through our marriages.
If he can destroy our marriage, he can tear us down.
Not only us but our children also.
This can have generational consequences!
He loves tearing us down, destroying our faith in God, and making us believe that God does not answer prayers.
If you quit believing that God answers prayers, then you stop praying.
A defeated Christian is not someone he has to worry about.
However, a Christian who says, “Not today, devil!” gets up and prays every single day, trusts in God’s Word, and is committed to living out His will for their lives…that person is someone who scares the devil!
The committed Christian who believes God at His Word abides in Him prays earnestly and claims the power of Jesus’s name is a person the devil is afraid of.
Why? Because he can’t defeat you. You cause a kink in his plans for evil.
The name of Jesus is the name above all other names!
He is King of kings and Lord of lords, and there is not one single thing satan can do about it!
Except, try to get you to stop believing.
Imagine living in that power in every area of your life and walking in that power.
Imagine the lives that can be changed!
The power of your testimony and your witness can lead others to a life with Jesus forever!
If you do this, don’t expect your life to be a walk in the park, my friend.
Once you determine to live this kind of life and pray with this kind of power, the devil will not only be scared but also look even harder for any crack he can find in your armor of faith to slip in and attack you.
That’s why the Bible says we are to put on our armor.
That’s why we are called to be warrior women!
Praying over our husbands, marriages, and families is our duty and privilege.
What to pray for in your marriage
“Answered prayers aren’t merely improbable coincidences. They are fingerprints of a living, loving God who invites all of us to draw close to Him, the One who made us and “is not far from each one of us; for in Him we live and move and have our being”(Acts 17:27-28 NKJV).” The Battle Plan for Prayer, Kendrick, Stephen, Kendrick, Alex.
As we learn more about prayer and its power, we have a more profound belief in the importance of prayer.
We have all had fights in our marriages.
The best way to fight in a marriage is to pray!
Don’t wait until the attack comes.
Don’t wait until you are in the thick of battle and fighting with your husband all the time and ready to pull your hair out, and maybe even his!
Pray now, pray hard, and pray often.
Pray that God will guard your husband’s heart, pray that God will set his heart on fire to serve God and be the head of your home as he should be.
Pray for God to guard his mind because we all know Satan is a liar and tries to convince us to believe his lies.
Pray for God to help him be the husband and father God created him to be.
Pray for his relationships not just with you but with his children, other family members, friends, and co-workers.
Pray that he will rise and be a man of strong faith and trust in God.
But how do we do this?
War room prayer position
This is not just a boxing match, my friends.
We don’t meet satan in the middle of a ring, shake hands, or hit gloves and then come out swinging.
We are in a full-fledged war here!
So what’s the first thing we must do to get into a position to fight this war with the devil?
We get on our knees. Yep, that’s it. That’s the position we take when we battle with the forces of evil.
The Bible says in Ephesians 6:10-12, “Finally, be strengthened by the Lord and His vast strength. Put on God’s full armor so you can stand against the schemes of the devil. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers of this darkness, against evil, spiritual forces in the heavens.” ( (in)courage Devotional Bible).
So the next time you feel that struggle start, a fight with your husband, you know something is off, remember our battle is not really with him.
It’s against the evil forces of the darkness.
Remember, we do not meet the devil in the middle of a ring, shake hands, and expect a good clean fight.
BUT that’s ok because we know what to do.
We have a strategy, a plan of attack, a way to defeat the devil and his evil plans.
The Bible is our battle plan! It’s better than any government department of defense or offense.
We have the best strategist on our side, and He tells us exactly what we are to do.
Does it really get any better than that?
Again, we have our battle plan in the same book and chapter that tells us about our battle.
“For this reason, take up the full armor of God, so that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having prepared everything, to take your stand. Stand, therefore, with truth like a belt around your waist, righteousness like armor on your chest, and your feet sandaled with readiness for the gospel of peace. In every situation, take up the shield of faith with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is God’s Word. Pray at all times in the Spirit with every prayer and request, and stay alert with all perseverance and intercession for all the saints.” Ephesians 6:13-18 ( (in)courage Devotional Bible). emphasis is mine
Seriously, does it get any better than that?!
God tells us we will be attacked, so there is no need to pout and whine when it happens because we know it is going to.
Then, God tells us EXACTLY what to do when it does happen!
War room prayer preparation
As much as I’d like to say all you have to do is read your Bible and then get on your knees and pray, there is a little more to it.
You don’t see an army gather a bunch of men and then fight without any preparation!
Well, at least not a good army.
We have to prepare ourselves.
So we need to get into the Word, which is our Bible.
Once we do this, we find that we need to prepare our hearts.
I know what you are thinking.
“I’m right, and my husband is wrong, and he just needs to listen to me or change his ways.”
I hear you! I was the same way!
My goodness, I’ve tried so hard to change my husband at times throughout our marriage.
I would get frustrated when he didn’t act or say what I thought he should.
But, I mean, seriously, if he would just LISTEN TO ME!!
Then I found the book The Power of a Praying Wife.
I thought I’d found some kind of plan to change my husband and make him exactly like I wanted.
Want to guess what the first chapter is about? Changing me!
What?! I said, “I’m not the one who needs changing, Lord; it’s him!”
Well, if you read your Bible, you will find out that to have power in our prayers, we have to get OUR hearts right.
I had to do some real soul searching and confessing.
I’m not going to lie; it wasn’t as fun as it may sound.
I realized that I had unconfessed sins regarding my husband.
Instead, I had anger, bitterness, resentment, and unforgiveness.
Man, my heart was a mess!
I had to repent.
I had to get my heart right with God before I could really pray for my husband.
So before you go on the attack in prayer and put out a “prayer hit” on your hubby, you may want to talk to the Lord first.
I was reminded of the story when the crowd brought a woman to Jesus and told Him the law said they could stone her.
Then Jesus (paraphrasing here) wrote in the dirt, looked at them, and said, “Let He who has no sin cast the first stone.”
I LOVE that story!! You can read the entire story in John chapter 8.
Example of a war room prayer
So now that you know what a war room prayer is, why you should be praying a war room prayer for your marriage, what to be praying for and how to prepare for it, what do you actually pray for?
I always start out by asking for forgiveness of my sins and getting my heart right.
Then I thank God for my husband and my marriage.
I start at his head and go to his feet!
I pray for a sound mind and wisdom.
I pray that God will open his eyes to the goodness of God and all of his blessings.
I pray that he will shut his ears to the devil’s lies and open them to hear the voice of the Holy Spirit.
I pray that God will guard his thoughts and protect him.
I pray for a sound mind.
Pray God will guard his heart and that He will have a heart for God and the things of God.
I pray and ask God to protect him and remove anyone or anything that would be a temptation to draw him away from our marriage and God.
Ask God to fill him with the Holy Spirit and flush out anything that is not of Him.
I ask for the healing of any past or current hurt, anger, bitterness, or resentment and that God will redeem and restore what has been hurt or lost.
I pray for his health and that God will heal anything that is not as it should be.
I ask God to guard and order his steps and keep him from going off the path God has for him.
I ask God to guard his relationships with family, friends, and co-workers.
I want him to have good, Christian relationships with people who will only help him draw closer to the Lord and draw him away.
Men who love God and their families will mentor my husband and encourage him to have strong relationships with his family.
Our marriages are a blessing, and it is so important that we cover our spouses and our marriages in prayer.
Going to the throne of God to obtain mercy and grace.
We must give our marriages to God and rely on Him to guard, protect and bless our marriages and homes.
